Lawn Preparation
- Skim off old lawn to a depth of 3 inches and discard.
- Cover lawn-to-be with 2-3 inches of organic soil amendment (and Gypsum at the rate of 5 pounds per 100 square feet if you have clay soil).
- Scatter Master Nursery Master Start over the area at the rate of 10 pounds per 500 square feet and rototill the soil, amendment, Gypsum, and fertilizer to a minimum depth of 6-8 inches (10-12 inches is preferable).
- Level the area.
- Install sprinkler system if desired.
- Water thoroughly to encourage weeds and weed grasses to sprout. Repeat every 3 to 4 days for 2 weeks.
- Spray with Master NurseryKleenup or Roundup to kill all weeds.
- Repeat Step 6 if necessary.
- Level again. Area should be dragged at least three times to get a good grade.
- Apply sod or seed:
- The soil layer in the sod will be three-quarters inch thick so calculate that into Steps 1, 2 and 3. Allow at least three-quarters inch below sidewalks and drives so that the soil and the sod is even with the walks and drives; OR
- Scatter seed with a spreader at the rate of 1 pound per 100 square feet and cover with a thin layer (one-quarter inch) of fine mulch such as Master Nursery Forest Blend or Paydirt.
- Roll sod or seed and mulch with a roller to ensure good contact with the prepared bed.
- Water seeded lawn twice daily (morning and early afternoon) and sodded lawn once per day until lawn is 2 inches tall.
- Fertilize after one month with Master Nursery Lawn Food.
